Foxes Fly Past Purple Eagles, 3-0

Schultze posts team high 11 kills

After falling to Canisius on Saturday, the Marist Volleyball team picked up a split on its western New York swing by topping Niagara on Sunday 3-0.

Freshman Alexandra Schultze (Austin, Texas) recorded a team high 11 kills and Sally Hanson (Guerneville, Calif.) posted a match high seven total blocks. Schultze was one of two Red Foxes in double figures in kills, as senior Jaime Kenworthy (Aston, Pa.) finished 10 winners in the match. Hanson recorded nine kills for Marist and led the Red Foxes in hitting percentage at .444.

Junior Christy Lukes (Mesa, Ariz.) contributed eight kills on Sunday and posted three total blocks. Marist also had two players with double digit digs, led by Kim McEathron (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) who totaled 14. McEathron now has 974 career digs for Marist, which ranks second all time. Stefanie Miksch (Austin, Texas) posted 12 digs on Sunday for the Red Foxes. Freshman setter Dawn Jan (Belleville, N.J.) posted 30 assists in the match.

The Purple Eagles were led by Raelean Rush, who posted a double-double with 12 kills and 12 digs. Nicole Piette and Maurin Lawrence posted 12 and 10 kills, respectively. Sara Mancini recorded a match high 18 digs for Niagara and Lawrence led the Purple Eagles in blocks with four. Mallory Boron ended with a match high 41 assists.

With the win Marist stands at 10-16 overall on the season and 7-9 in league play. Marist will return to action on November 9 when it will take on MAAC rival Siena. The match is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. in Loudonville.
