Hanson posts 14 kills, hits .429
The Marist Women’s Volleyball squad dropped a 3-0 decision at Canisius (19-8, 13-3 MAAC) on Saturday afternoon. Senior captain Sally Hanson (Guerneville, Calif.) led Marist with 14 kills and three total blocks in the match. Scores of the contest were 28-30, 23-30 and 25-30 in favor of the Griffs.
Hanson was one of two Red Foxes with double digit kills, as freshman outside hitter Alexandra Scultze (Austin, Texas) posted 12 in the match. Schultze would also total six digs and one block.
Kelsey Schaefer (Maria Stein, Ohio) and Christy Lukes (Mesa, Ariz.) also had solid outings for Marist, as each recorded seven kills in the match for the Foxes. Freshman setter Dawn Jan (Belleville, N.J.) contributed 46 assists to Maristâ ™s offensive attack.
Canisius was led by two players with double digit kills in Mary Boller with 14 and Emily McNabb with 13. Each player would also post four total blocks in the match. Canisius also had three players in double figure digs, led by Jess Stackhouse with 17. Brittany Gerde recorded a match high 48 assists for the Golden Griffs.
With the loss Marist drops to 9-16 overall on the season and 6-9 in MAAC play. The Foxes will be back in action tomorrow afternoon at Niagara. In the first meeting this season Marist posted a 3-2 win on September 16.
