Resilient Marist Clips Iona In Five

Hanson’s 23 kills pace Red Foxes

(Poughkeepsie) - Behind a team-high 23 kills from senior Sally Hanson ( Guerneville , Calif. ), the Marist volleyball team downed Iona, 3-2, on Wednesday at the McCann Center . The Red Foxes won by scores of 30-25, 22-30, 23-30, 30-20, 15-13.

A pair of Red Foxes, senior Jaime Kenworthy (Aston, Pa.) and freshman Alexandra Schultze (Austin, Texas) registered double-doubles on the evening. Kenworthy finished with 15 kills and 17 digs, while Schultze totaled 11 kills and a team-best 18 digs.

Freshman setter Dawn Jan (Belleville, N.J.) finished with 57 assists. Junior Christy Lukes (Mesa, Ariz.) had 13 kills and hit .684.

For Iona , Kristin Allain led the way with 23 kills to go along with 10 digs. Shelby Erb finished with 24 digs, and Alyssa Morales had 53 assists and nine digs.

For the Red Foxes, the match marked the eighth time this season they had gone to five games. Their record in five-game matches improved to 4-4. The first meeting between the Red Foxes and the Gaels this season, on Sept. 20, also went to five games, but the Gaels prevailed.

The Red Foxes have now won back-to-back Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference matches for the first time in three years. Marist had recorded a 3-1 victory at Saint Peter’s on Sunday. The Red Foxes (6-13 overall, 4-7 MAAC) will attempt to win their third consecutive match on Saturday when they host Loyola at 2 p.m.

Iona fell to 5-14 overall and 3-7 in the MAAC.
