Marist Volleyball Runs Winning Streak To Four

Red Foxes Down Rider In Four Games

(Poughkeepsie) – The Marist women’s volleyball team won its fourth consecutive match Friday evening, posting a 3-1 victory over Rider in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference contest at the McCann Center. The Red Foxes (8-14 overall, 6-7 MAAC) prevailed by scores of 26-30, 30-22, 30-22, 30-25.

Senior middle blocker Sally Hanson ( Guerneville , Calif. ) paced the Red Foxes with team-highs of 18 kills and seven blocks. Hanson hit .432 for the match, and also added eight digs and two aces. Senior outside hitter Jaime Kenworthy ( Aston , Pa. ) finished with a team-best 23 digs and added 17 kills. Junior middle blocker Christy Lukes ( Mesa , Ariz. ) finished with nine kills, five blocks, four digs and hit .368 for the match.

Freshman outside hitter Alexandra Schultze ( Austin , Texas ) totaled 14 kills and 11 digs. Senior libero Stefanie Miksch (Austin, Texas) finished with 19 digs, and freshman setter Dawn Jan (Belleville, N.J.) racked up 53 assists.

For Rider (7-15 overall, 5-8 MAAC), senior middle hitter Megan Smith led all players with 27 kills, and recorded the 1,000th kill of her career in the third game. Freshman setter JoAnna Winter finished with 48 assists, and freshman libero Amy Jeary led the Broncs with 17 digs.

The Red Foxes’ four-match winning streak is their first since 2003. The victory also avenged a 3-1 loss to Rider on Oct. 7, and enabled the Red Foxes to move into sole possession of fifth in the MAAC. Marist sits just one game behind Manhattan for fourth place.

Marist will return to action on Saturday with a 2 p.m. match against Fairfield at the McCann Center . The Stags are in first place in the MAAC with an 11-0 conference record. In the teams’ first meeting of the season, the Red Foxes suffered a 3-0 loss on Oct. 14. So far this season, Marist is 4-0 when playing a conference opponent the second time through the schedule.
