Sally Hanson (Guerneville, Calif.) became the second player in Marist history to reach 1,000 career kills on Saturday, but Marist fell on the road at Fairfield 3-0. Scores for the match were 21- 30, 26-30 and 21-30 in favor of the Stags.
Hanson entered the match with 999 career kills and she wasted little time picking up the one she needed, as it came in the first game. She finished the match hitting .400 to lead Marist. Hanson joins teammate Jaime Kenworthy (Aston, Pa.) as the only two players in Marist history to reach 1,000 kills.
Alexandra Schultze (Austin, Texas) led Marist with nine kills, she also added six digs on the afternoon. Senior Kim McEathron (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) led Marist in digs with nine, while Hanson posted four total blocks to lead the Foxes. Freshman setter Dawn Jan (Belleville, N.J.) totaled 27 assists in the contest.
Fairfield (11-6, 8-0 MAAC) was led by Lindsey Lee and Katie Mann who totaled 16 and 14 kills, respectively. Lee also recorded her 1,000th career kill in the match. On the defensive side Fairfield had two players post 16 digs in Lee and Jazmin Pa'akaula. Mann posted a match high five total blocks, while Barbie Thistle recorded a match high 47 assists.
Marist, who stands at 4-14 overall and 2-7 in the MAAC will be back in action on Wednesday night when it hosts Iona at 7:00 p.m.
