Frank Algier (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) and the doubles team of Pedro Genovese (Asuncion, Paraguay) and Federico Rolon (San Diego, Calif.) have reached the championship finals of their respective flights at the Cornell Fall Indoor Invitational.
Algier, playing in Flight C, won two matches on Saturday to reach the final. He defeated Ashish Bhandari of Cornell, 6-2, 2-1, retired, and downed Colgate’s John Nogueras, 6-3, 6-2. Algier will face Cornell’s Bryant Yung in Sunday’s final.
In Flight A Doubles, Genovese and Rolon earned an 8-5 victory over Navy’s Adrian Lai and an 8-2 triumph over Cornell’s Kevin Jay and Peter Kung.
In other matches, Jeff Nguyen (San Diego, Calif.) reached the final of the Flight C Singles consolation round before falling. Nguyen defeated Colgate’s Michael Kodesch, 8-4, and Temple ’s Gonzalo De Villa, 8-1, but suffered an 8-6 loss to Army’s Bruno Lucivero.
Algier also teamed with Antonio Oliver (Madrid, Spain) in Flight B Doubles. The duo earned an 8-5 win over Lucivero and Johnny Lucero of Army, but suffered an 8-4 loss in the semifinals to Tongle Yu and Jonathan Fife of Cornell.
Oliver, playing in the Flight A Singles consolation round, posted an 8-2 win over Fairleigh Dickinson’s Gabriel Lopez, but then dropped an 8-1 match to Temple ’s Nathan Spunda.
In Flight B Singles main draw action, Rolon dropped a 6-4, 6-3 match to Yu of Cornell. Ray Josephs (Rose Valley, Pa.) dropped a 6-0, 6-3 decision to Cornell’s Jay.
Play at the Cornell Fall Indoor Invitational concluded on Sunday.
