Men's Cross Country Topped By Navy

Seniors Dan O'Loughlin took second and Matt Kotlarski finished fourth, but Navy grabbed the fifth through seventh spots to deny the Black Knights en route to clinching a 22-33 victory in the annual "Star" match Saturday afternoon at the Navy Golf Course.

O'Loughlin's clocking of 24 minutes, 51.89 seconds over the 8,000-meter layout trailed Navy's John Kress' winning mark by just over four seconds, while Kotlarski cross in a time of 25:01.58 as the Black Knights and Mids split the top four spots.

Navy's sweep of the next three places clinched the win for the Mids.

Senior Faraz Bala was the third Army harrier to break the tape, touring the course in a time of 25:27.49 to place eighth overall.

John Mickowski (25:31.45), Andrew Catalano (25:34.67), Doug Pelletier (25:37.88) and Jon Anderson (25:38.94) rounded out Army's Top 7 runners, placing ninth, 10th, 11th and 12th, respectively.

"Navy's Adam Craig stepped up by clinching seventh place," commented Army head coach Jerry Quiller. "There was a thundering herd of our guys right behind him, and it made for an exciting finish."

Army had won two of the previous three meetings between the two teams heading into the meet.
