(Newburgh) - As the Newburgh Beacon Ferry completes its first year, holiday magic will deck the halls and add sparkle to the landing as caroling groups and church choirs warmly welcome home ferry riders. Looking to keep tradition alive, Ferry Godmother Productions presents a community candlelight “2nd Annual Waterfront Caroling Fest”. For a week long blend, The City of Newburgh’s Youth Bureau, LPSS, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, New Hope Baptist church and New Beginners Church will fa-la-la-la-la each time the ferry unloads its’ commuters. Bring the entire family to the Newburgh Beacon Ferry Landing at the City of Newburgh waterfront December 18 thru 22, 2006, 6-7 pm. Open to the public and free, enjoy five wonderful evenings of holiday cheer. To be a part of the program next year or to obtain general information contact the Ferry Godmother at AWrightGroup@msn.com or call 845.568.0198.
To ensure that tradition is not left behind, the ferry’s festive sailings convey the holiday spirit with an abundance of holiday cheer using colorful decorations, holiday music, and caroling. The youth of Newburgh await the arrival of Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus from the North Pole on that next ferry. The ferry family will disembark their floating “Winter Wonderland” to caroling, hot spiced cider and roasted chestnut fill air.
This annual holiday celebration within a community could not happen without the participation of local government, organizations and churches. Included will be the delightful and enriching voices by The City of Newburgh’s Youth Bureau as they continue to do incredible work with limited resources. The Youth Bureau will be joined by local youth organization Liberty Partnership Program (LPP). LPP, an Orange County Community College program, offers supportive interventions and opportunities for students identified as being at risk of dropping out of school. Also joining the line-up is Big Brothers Big Sisters of Orange County, housed in the City of Newburgh they provide opportunities and supports to young people through mentoring and positive youth development programs. New Beginners Church and New Hope Baptist Church, both of the City of Newburgh, will offer wholesome and uplifting spirituals to usher in the holiday season as well. Our finale will be the warmth, peaceful and joyful hymnals of St. Mary Roman Catholic Church Youth Choir.
The tradition of caroling is quite universal and is intricately connected to the very survival of a community. Caroling serves the function of having neighbors visit each other to bestow blessings, check in, share and exchange food, money, and other resources... reinforcing relationships in the community. Caroling is a time for reflection and celebration - a time to express hopes for the return of the light, health, wealth, and fertility in the year to come. Don't miss out on all the excitement, festivities and cheer this holiday season.
