(Newburgh) - The second graduating class of His Excellence Theological Seminary was held this past Saturday at Ebenezer Baptist Church.
Friends and family members gathered to witness the conferring of degrees upon loved ones, including 25 bachelors, six masters and five doctorate degrees and one ministers license. Rev. George Smith received the Honorary Doctor of Theology degree and Bishop Raymond Berger, Elder Hazel Brown, Bishop Kenneth Moales, Charles Stewart, and Elder Helen Taylor received Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters.
The praise dance team from Jesus Saves Ministry performed, as did the New Day Tabernacle. Ebenezer Baptist Church choir offered musical selections.
After the graduates marched into the church, Lady Mona Williams sung a beautiful rendition of the National Anthem. Dr. Joyce Williams provided the invocation and Dr. Elaine Burke welcomed everyone to the commencement service.
Dr. Lance Jeter, President of His Excellence Theological Seminary, handed out “Spirit of Excellence Awards” to: Elder Cleveland Blash, Jr; Apostle Roberta Knotts; Bishop Walter Medlock; Apostle Gloria Stewart; and Rev. Byron Williams. The “Christian Educator of the Year” award went to Dr. Coleman Briggs. “My Hero” award was given to Elder Ann Perry. “Faculty Appreciation” awards were presented to: Evangelist Madie Cousar; Dr. Christine McCaskill; Dr. Shane Gaskins; Dr. Enine Williams; Elder-elect Vanessa Campbell; Elder Karla Knight; and Dr. Angela Gaskins.
The commencement speaker was Bishop Raymond Berger. His powerful message to those who were graduating was one of inspiration. And for their families who had traveled from far and near to participate in the commencement, he offered them a little sermon, just in case they didn’t make it to Sunday service. “You have the knowledge to be shared with others,” Berger said. Understanding the work that the graduates would soon be undertaking, and the education they had received, he acknowledged how well prepared they were for the task at hand. This school “would not send people out that are not prepared to minister, not able to preach...they have to know Jesus!”
Dr. Jeter closed by thanking all the students who, “worked so tirelessly to receive your degrees. May all of you continue to equip yourselves so that you may help build the Kingdom of God!”
