Glenn Hines Celebrates At Gala

(Newburgh) - More than money, more than bricks and mortar, people make the difference at the Boys & Girls Clubs of America. In the tradition of honoring those who have made a difference in our community, the Glenn Hines Boys & Girls Club invites the public to attend the 4th Annual Global Celebration and Awards Gala “10 Years of Hope and Opportunity”.

The 2006 gala is in honor of those who have made a remarkable difference in the lives of children and families: Greer Cooper - Community Service and Clarence Cooper - Education; OCFS Commissioner John Johnson - Human Service; Assemblyman Thomas Kirwan - Government.

This year’s gala will announce the first installation into the Glenn Hines BGCN’s Alumni Hall of Fame. The Alumni Hall of Fame recognizes the accomplishments of former Club members who’ve gone on to make major contributions in their field with thanks for the positive influence they extend toward current club members. Joining the roster of other distinguished national BGCA Alumni such as Jennifer Lopez, Denzel Washington, Angela Bassett, Colin Powell, and Shaquille O’Neal will be: Warren Boyd, Harvey Burger, Audrey Carey and Runston “Pop” Lewis. Their stories are different, but all start out the same: with the life-changing programs, caring and attentive staff, and fun and safety of local Boys and Girls Clubs.

The benefit event, which commemorates the 100th Year for the Boys and Girls Club of America and Glenn Hines Boys & Girls Club’s 10th Year in the Movement, will take place on Friday, October 6, 2006 at The Meadowbrook Lodge, 1290 Route 94, New Windsor, NY from 6:00pm-10pm. The gala will feature vocal and dance performances by Precious Walker, Kentora Williams and Kierre Clark. Teen Club Member James Steed will be the Master of Ceremonies and 6th Grade Member, Kamaree Coard, will deliver the Keynote Speech “On Hope and Opportunity. ” The fabulous DJ Octavius will provide ballroom and party music for your dancing pleasure. This will be a spectacular event that certainly should not be missed!

Attire is black tie optional. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Glenn Hines Boys & Girls Club which has taken members from the Club House to the White House; from the game room to the corporate boardroom; from the high school classroom to Notre Dame University. Giving young people the skills they need to succeed in life. Nationally and locally recognized programs are offered at the Main Site, North Junior High School, South Junior High School and the Mullins Apartments.
