Once An Eagle Scout, Always An Eagle Scout!

Once an Eagle Scout, always an Eagle Scout! On Thursday, September 28, 2006 the Hudson Valley Council, Boy Scouts of America will host an Eagle Scout Reunion at the West Point Club from 6 PM to 9 PM. This exciting event will be an opportunity for the Hudson Valley Boy Scout Council to reconnect with some of the more than 4,000 Eagle Scouts living or working in the Hudson Valley area and re-inspire their commitment to Scouting.

Since 1912, the Eagle Scout badge has carried great significance not only in Scouting, but also as a sign of a successful young man as they enter higher education or business. It is an achievement that only five percent of all Scouts ever accomplish. The values and skills learned as an Eagle Scout are ones that are instilled for a lifetime. Eagle Scouts are Scouting’s premier alumni and can be found across all industries throughout the Hudson Valley. They are our business, law enforcement, medical, fire & emergency services and public service industry leaders to name just a few.

Many of the Hudson Valley’s business leaders are Eagle Scouts. The list includes Steven Dormer, Executive Vice President of Provident Bank, Daniel Thompson, Executive Vice President, Dynegy, David Cocks, President & CEO, Walden Savings Bank, Thomas Weddell & Steve Howell, Partners, Vanacore, DeBendictus, DiGovanni and Weddell and Bill Grogg, President, NetPublications to name just a few.

As part of reconnecting with its Eagle Scouts, the Council will be seeking to learn more about Eagle Scouts and what they are doing now. They will be creating their first ever Hudson Valley Eagle Scout Directory. This directory will be given out to all Eagle Scouts the night of the event and provide an opportunity for Eagle Scouts across the Hudson Valley to network and reconnect with each other.

Eric Chamberlin, Executive Director of the Hudson Valley Council, BSA stated, “This will no doubt be the largest gathering of Eagles Scouts in one place at one time ever in the Hudson Valley.”

The Hudson Valley Council, Boy Scouts of America currently serves nearly 10,000 young people through Scouting and Learning for Life Programs in the New York Counties of Dutchess, Rockland, Orange, Sullivan and Pike Count in Pennsylvania.
