CBC commends new officials

U.S. Representative Melvin L. Watt (D-N.C.), Chairman of the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC), congratulated the newly-elected Democratic leaders of the House recently.“The members of the Congressional Black Caucus congratulate our friends and colleagues on being elected our new Democratic House leaders - U.S. Representatives Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), Speaker; Steny Hoyer (D-MD), House Majority Leader; James E. Clyburn (D-S.C.), House Majority Whip; Rahm Emmanuel (D-IL), Democratic Caucus Chair; and John Larson (D-CT), Democratic Caucus Vice Chair.“The Caucus expresses special pride in the election of one of our CBC members, Rep. Jim Clyburn, on his election as Majority Whip, the third highest ranking position in the United States House of Representatives. Mr. Clyburn will be only the second African American in the history of the House to hold this position, held by former U.S. Representative and CBC member William H. Gray (D-PA), from 1989-1991. Jim will be the Democratic Party’s point man for moving legislation through the House.“We are all proud to serve with Nancy, Steny, Jim, Rahm and John in a Democratic majority.”
