Pelletier covered the 8000-meter layout with a time of 26 minutes, 30.0 seconds to place 10th, while O’Loughlin’s 13th place finish in 26:37.7 earned both Army runners second team All-Patriot League honors. Kotarski just missed earning league status following a 15th place finish in 26:46.3. It was the third time this fall that Pelletier has led the Black Knights across the finish line.
Sophomores Andrew Catalano and Justin Messenger rounded Army’s top five runners, placing 29th (27:23.1) and 32nd (27:35.3), respectively. Also among the Black Knight contingent turning in strong showing among the field of 82 runners were freshman Steve Marthy, 33rd (27:37.3) and senior Faraz Bala, 36th (27:48.4).
“Doug (Pelletier), our senior captain, ran the best race of his life,” commented head coach Jerry Quiller, “but we had a lot of troubles from side aches to allergy problems. The rain and mud did not help either, but everyone had to deal with that. We just did not do well today and we were all disappointed.”
Defending champion American claimed the individual winner in Brendan Fennell (25:20.8), along with placing all five runners in the Top 8 spots to dominate the meet with a score of 25 points. Runner-up Navy was a distant second with 69 points followed by Bucknell (80), Army (99), Lehigh (119), Colgate (169), Lafayette (203) and Holy Cross (205).
