Hanna Named New Volleyball Couch

(Poughkeepsie) - Marist Director of Athletics, Tim Murray, is pleased to announce that Tom Hanna, a 1991 Marist graduate, will return to his alma mater to take over the reins of the Red Foxes volleyball program. Previously an assistant for the Red Foxes, Hanna has also worked at five other institution.

“We are extremely excited to have a veteran coach like Tom return to his alma mater”, said Murray. “Tom has stayed close to the program as an active and loyal alumnus. I have great confidence that he will be able to build the program into a strong contender in the MAAC”. During his time as an undergraduate at Marist, Hanna served as an assistant coach for the Red Foxes, helping direct recruitment strategies for the newly scholarship-enhanced program. He served as interim head coach from November 1990 to May 1991. In addition to his responsibilities with the varsity womens team, Hanna also founded and served as head coach for the mens club team.

Most recently, Hanna served as the assistant mens coach at Rutgers-Newark, helping his squad to the EIVA Tournament Semi-Finals. He has four years of Division I womens experience as an assistant at Bowling Green, serving as director of recruiting, scouting, film exchange and camps. Prior to that, he spent two seasons as the womens assistant at Ferris State University and three years assisting both the mens and womens programs at East Stroudsburg State. Hanna spent his second post-graduate season at Alaska-Anchorage, helping the nationally ranked Seawolves to the 1992 Pacific Conference Co-Championship in the Western Division.

In addition to his collegiate experience, Hanna has assisted the USA Mens and Womens National Teams as a coaching apprentice, intern and scouting statistician. He was also an evaluator for various levels of National Team tryouts.

Hanna graduated from Marist with a bachelors degree in communications and a New York State Coaches Certificate minor in 1991. He continued his education at East Stroudsburg, earning a Masters of Education with a concentration in sports management.
