Catching The "Big One"

(Newburgh) - Karen Brewer patiently awaited the line on her fishing reel to take off and the rod to bend. Those are the classic tale-tell signs that you’ve got the “big one.” While fishing at the Newburgh Bay she caught a young catfish which she threw back into the Hudson River. “He’s too young,” she said “I’ll catch him again in a few years.”

While fishing, Brewer also set a crab basket. “Oh yes, there are crabs in the Hudson River,” Brewer said. Like the fish a few moments earlier, when she pulled up the crab basket, a baby crab was inside trying to get her bait. “I use a chicken leg and slightly open a can of tuna to give it a bouquet,” she said. While that wasn’t turning out to be a good night for fishing, Brewer said that she usually does pretty well.
